BLOG TOUR AND REVIEW OF THE 19TH ELEMENT BY J.L. BETCHER

The 19th Element: A James Becker Nuclear ThrillerIn The 19th Element: A James Becker Nuclear Thriller, Al Qaeda plans to attack Minnesota’s Prairie River Nuclear Power Plant as a means to return the down-trodden terrorist organization to international prominence.
In addition to their own devoted forces, the terrorists enlist some homegrown anarchists, and a Three Mile Island survivor with a pathological vendetta against the nuclear establishment, to assist in the assault.
James “Beck” Becker is a former elite U.S. government intelligence operative who has retired to his childhood hometown of Red Wing, Minnesota – just six miles down the Mississippi from the Prairie River nuclear facility.
Possessing wisdom born of experience, Beck suspects the terrorists’ intentions as soon as the body of a university professor turns up on the Mississippi shore – the clear victim of foul play.
He recognizes connections between seemingly unrelated incidents – the murdered agronomy professor, a missing lab assistant, an international cell call, a stolen fertilizer truck – but can’t piece it together in enough detail to convince government authorities that a larger threat exists.  Only his American Indian friend, “Bull,” will help Beck defuse the threat.
So it’s Beck and Bull versus international terror.

My Thoughts-

The book started out slowly and then picked up speed rather quickly. There were some chapters that provided me too much technical information and I felt that I was reading a chemistry textbook. This is a great psychological thriller and I was able to finish the book in one afternoon. It was scary and I felt like I was right there with Beck stopping the terrorists. The characters were well developed and believable. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and his newest book A Higher Court, One Man's Search for the Truth of God's Existence.

About the Author-

The author holds a Bachelor's Degree, cum laude, in English from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Minnesota Law School in Minneapolis. He has practiced law for more than twenty-five years in the Mississippi River community of Red Wing, Minnesota. He has also been a long-time supporter and coach of youth volleyball there. Mr. Betcher has published three feature articles in COACHING VOLLEYBALL, the Journal of the American Volleyball Coaches Association. His most recent article was the cover story for the April/May, 2009 Issue.

BLOG TOUR AND REVIEW OF CAPTAIN BONNY MORGAN (THE CASSANDRA PROPHESY) BY R. "DOC" GOWDY

Join Robert “Doc” Gowdy, as he virtually tours the blogosphere on his first virtual book tour with  Pump Up Your Book!
Captain Bonny Morgan: The Cassandra Prophesy

In Captain Bonny Morgan: The Cassandra Prophesy, Captain Bonny,a space pirate, kidnaps the  Empress's daughter, Princess Cosette, and sets into motion an adventure mixed with conspiracy, crazy characters, and secrets. She is trying to fulfill a prophesy that was initiated by a ancient order. The Princess's sister Lysette sets out to find her. With the help of her slavegirl, Tink, they travel throughout the galaxy to find the Princess. They run into many shady and hilarious characters along the way. Tink is no ordinary slavegirl. She is beautiful, mischievous, intelligent and extraordinary. Does Captain Bonny Fulfill the prophesy and does Lysette find her sister? I guess you have to read the book to find out.

About the Author-

Robert “Doc” Gowdy is a graduate of the University of North Texas with a Ph.D. in Literary Criticism and Theory and an emphasis on Nineteenth-Century British literature.  His specialization in literary theory is psychoanalytic criticism and theory, particularly Lacanian psychoanalysis, with further emphases on Milton and Eighteenth-Century literature.  He is currently an adjunct assistant professor at Texas Woman’s University where he teaches various literature classes.  His interest in writing is long standing, but aside from academic writing his first novel, Captain Bonny Morgan: The Cassandra Prophesy is his first foray into fiction.  Captain Bonny Morgan is based on archetypal themes and patterns from mythology, such as fairies, goddesses, and the Hero’s Journey, and based loosely on Doc Gowdy’s active duty service in the United States Marine Corps with special emphasis on the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean at the turn of the Eighteenth-Century.

My Thoughts-

The novel was full of action, adventure and was very erotic. The book is definitely for adults and I was happy when my daughter, Melissa asked me to review the book. She knew right away that it was not for her. I did like the plot and all of the crazy characters that were introduced in the book. The author was very creative and the writing style was great. I have to admit that the book was not for me because of all of the descriptive sex scenes that was happening throughout the book. If you are into x-rated novels then this is the book for you.

VIRTUAL BLOG TOUR AND REVIEW OF VOICES UNDER BERLIN BY T.H.E. HILL

Join T.H.E. Hill, author of the spy fiction novel, Voices Under Berlin: The Tale of a Monterey Mary, as he virtually tours the blogosphere in April 2010 on his first virtual book tour with Pump Up Your Book!

Voices Under Berlin is a fictional story set during the beginning of the Cold War in Berlin where CIA and British operatives dug a tunnel so they could tap into the cables that carried telephone messages of the East Germans and the Soviets. It was named Project Operation Gold or Project PBJOINTLY as the tunnel workers called it. Each chapter depicted another day in the life of Monterey Mary. When I first read that name, I thought that it was a story about a woman but I later found out that it was the term used to name the people who were interpreters trained by the Army. For about a year, Kevin and other members of the team listened to and recorded telephone calls looking for information that might be useful for the US. Most of the jargon that was in the book, I was not familiar with and the author included a glossary of the terms that made the book easier to read.

Other characters included the unnamed Chief of Base who always showed up in disguise because he wanted to keep everything secret (I thought that he was a bit paranoid), Sargent Lauflaecker, Blackie (possibly was involved with the black- market) and Lieutenant Sheerluck who ran everything by the book. They were constantly playing jokes on each other and I found that very funny at times. There were other characters that only appeared on the transcripts, and were mostly Russians. They were the Voices Under Berlin. The book was written more like a memoir rather than a novel. I found the book funny, easy to read and if you like espionage and the Cold War this is the book for you. The novel has won five book Awards.

About the Author-

T.H.E. Hill, served with the U.S. Army Security Agency at Field Station Berlin in the mid-1970s, after a tour at Herzo Base in the late 1960s. He is a three-time graduate of the Defense Language Institute (DLIWC) in Monterey, California, the alumni of which are called “Monterey Marys”. The Army taught him to speak Russian, Polish, and Czech; three tours in Germany taught him to speak German, and his wife taught him to speak Dutch. He has been a writer his entire adult life, but now retired from Federal Service, he writes what he wants, instead of the things that others tasked him to write while he was still working.
