Book Description:

With so many distortions of the essence of a woman, today more than ever, women need to ruthlessly examine their perceptions and reality of being a wife, and then align them with Truth so that they may become the best version of themselves as God had intended them to be.

In The “Sorta” Good Wife, Kim Hess explores how A Good Wife, as described in Proverbs 31:10-31, beautifully portrays the dignity of being a spouse as a wife. However, this expectation gets warped by trauma, sin, fears, and lies, and many women do not know how to embrace and enjoy this vocation. A woman must align herself to Truth and rely on His power, not her own. The Lord desires to be a part of every aspect of daily life and every season of her life, so that she may reach her full potential.

GUEST POST:

Who Prayed for Me?

By Kim Hess

I have a list of people of whom I pray for. The people on my list fluctuate as their intentions are asked and answered, but a few have remained on my list over the years for which I pray very specific prayers.

One specific person has remained on my list the past couple of years. She’s a teen, experiencing a very similar childhood as I had. Her father is battling brain cancer. He suffered from seizures, forced to change his employment status, considered extreme treatment options, and had to adjust to a new lifestyle. She has had to live through these changes as an adolescent.

I remember those traumatic years. It’s not easy to endure, especially as a teen.

Every so often, her name pops into my mind during the day, and I pray for her, her father, her mother, and her brothers. Sometimes, I text her mom with a quick prayer. The mom usually replies quickly, surprised with the timing of my prayer, which often coincides with a difficult situation in their lives. (Thanks, Holy Spirit!)

As I prayed one morning for this young lady, a thought popped into my mind: Who prayed for me during my childhood? Did the Holy Spirit prompt that person to pray for me during the day? What did that person pray for me?

I wish I could thank that person in person, because I firmly believe those prayers contributed to me returning to the Lord. I no longer hate God, like I did when I was a teenager. I want to tell that person that I appreciate the intercessory prayers, and I wonder whether specific prayers preceded blessings or breakthroughs. I hope that person knows that I praise God for him or her, because I believe that person was crucial to my spiritual life in ways that I perceive, but not fully understand.

Perhaps I will get to thank that person in Heaven.

REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY OF THE HEAVENLY HOST (BOOK 1) BY C. DELLASEGA

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Testings of Devotion (The Heavenly Host)In The Testings of Devotion (The Heavenly Host), the former archangel Lucifer thinks he can prove a point by destroying Mortals completely but Sophia, Senior Servant of the Heavenly Host, is determined to thwart his plan—and resist his temptations. As a created angel, she witnessed his fall from Heaven with horror but when she’s assigned to carry out The Testings of Devotion, she discovers just how strong the lure of Earth can be. Luckily, the archangel Gabriel is there to support her but his mysterious disappearances and silence about the fate of Sophia’s predecessor are disturbing. Her three assistants, the Selected Servants, also come with challenges: one moment they work with complete dedication and the next they openly rebel.

As Lucifer’s power on Earth grows, he struggles to control his unruly army of Grigori, who are offspring of the original fallen angels. His grip of evil tightens around the seven Mortals chosen to be part of the Testings of Devotion just as Gabriel reveals there is a traitor within the Kingdom of Heaven. Still subject to Lucifer’s subtle attempts at seduction, Sophia begins to doubt her abilities to complete her assignments and fears she will disappoint both Gabriel and the Almighty Divine. When thrown into a direct confrontation with her adversary, she finally realizes who is truly being tested and witnesses the surprising power of complete submission.

My Thoughts-

If you are interested in Angels and the war between good and evil, then this is the book for you. The book is fictitious but is based on the Bible and the fall of Lucifer. The Angels were sent to protect us and guide us away from Lucifer. The book was a little slow starting and it took me a few chapters to get into the storyline. I was tempted to stop reading but I continued on and it started to fall into place for me. This is the first book in the trilogy and I will continue reading the series. This is a worthwhile read if you like religious fiction and was very descriptive.Would you like to win a copy of the book? I will be giving away my copy of the book to one lucky reader.

REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY OF EAT THE COOKIE...BUY THE SHOES BY J. MEYER

Eat the Cookie...Buy the Shoes: Giving Yourself Permission to Lighten UpThe book Eat the Cookie...Buy the Shoes: Giving Yourself Permission to Lighten Up by Joyce Meyer gives us permission to lighten up and enjoy life. Engrained in our culture is the belief that unbending discipline is the only sure way to success. You must go to the gym five times a week, never order the dessert, and don't even think about buying that dress you keep staring at in the store window. Breaking from such a regimented lifestyle is a sign of weakness, right? Wrong!-and Joyce wants to tell us why...

Though setting rules in our lives are important, it's just as important that we break them from time-to-time. Structure is a powerful tool, but when diverging from your own goals is seen as catastrophic, it can have a hugely negative effect on us. Balance is a core value in life and every once in awhile we deserve to indulge in a guilty pleasure or two. So don't feel bad about straying from your goals every once-in-awhile and in fact, embrace it: eat the cookie and buy the shoes.

My thoughts-

I have always felt guilty to buy something for myself. The book wants us to celebrate life and have fun. In the book, the author discusses many reasons why we should celebrate. We have all made mistakes in our lives, and the book says that we should not dwell on the past and move forward. She uses scripture to show that we are allowed to celebrate and be happy. There is a chapter in the book that encourages us to rest and give our soul a vacation by changing your attitude toward life and say a prayer. I have been very stressed in school and the book has helped me to learn to relax and enjoy life. I found the book enjoyable and easy to read. She used examples from her own life to show us that being disciplined is an important part of life we have a right to relax and celebrate.

Abigail: A Novel (The Wives of King David) by Jill Eileen Smith is about Abigail a beautiful and strong willed woman is betrothed to a handsome and rich man, Nabal. On their wedding night he is drunk and disrespects her father. Abigail tries to honor and respect her husband. Every day he abuses her but she keeps her head high. Her family decided to join a wandering tribe whose leader is David and he is traveling to avoid King Saul. King Saul does not like and respect David. David is destined to become King one day, and Saul is not fond of the idea. Abigail is released from her abusive husband when he suddenly dies. What is Abigail to do? Who will take care of her?

She is free and can move on with her life. With the help of her brother, Daniel she is taken in and protected by David. He marries her, and she is very happy. Although David marries many other wives throughout the story, he relies on her wisdom to help him serve God. Can David lead his people and still obey God? That question and many more are answered in the book.

Turmoil marked her life—what price must she pay for love?

 About the Author-

Jill Eileen Smith has more than twenty years of writing experience, and her writing has garnered acclaim in several contests. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys time with her family, reading great stories, trying new recipes, and snuggling her two adorable cats. Jill’s research into the lives of David’s wives has taken her from the Bible to Israel, and she particularly enjoys learning how women lived in Old Testament times. Her collection of Bible study helps and books on culture and history, along with an abundance of novels fills at least one shelf or bookcase in nearly every room in the house.

My Review-
Although, I have not had the pleasure to read the first book in the series, I was able to read Abigail with no difficulty. Abigail is a wonderful book. I felt her pain, her triumphs and her happiness. It was realistic and believable. It showed how women lived in Biblical times, and it was well researched. I look forward to the next novel in the series Bathsheba. The Author did an excellent job in portraying such a wonderful woman.
