REVIEW OF THE FAGOR HALOGEN TABLETOP CONVECTION OVEN

Thanks to the folks at CSN stores, I had the opportunity to try the Fagor Halogen Tabletop Convection Oven. With this handy little oven you can grill,bake,broil steam or roast while saving energy! This highly efficient and portable halogen oven does the work of many appliances in one. A powerful internal fan circulates hot air to cook food uniformly and seal in natural juices for full flavor and aroma. I was so excited to try it out when it arrived that we made cookies and air-fried chicken drumsticks all in one day.

 MY REVIEW-

My mom was a little skeptical if the oven would work but when she saw and tasted the chicken,she was impressed. The instructions were very easy to follow and there are temperature and time guidelines included in the booklet. There is a extender ring included with the oven and I recommend that you use it for everything you cook because the heating element and fan is very close to the food and it can burn very quickly. I found that out the hard way with the cookies (oatmeal raisin). I had to experiment with the temperature and if you set the temperature that is recommended on the package, they will cook to quickly. We ended up cooking the second batch at 250 degrees for 15mins. The texture of the cookies were chewy and very moist. We were only able to cook 15 cookies at a time and if you need more cookies then the regular oven is the way to go. They were devoured very quickly and all was left was the plate for us to clean.

The Chicken- 

My family is always looking for ways to cook without fat. Usually we remove the skin before cooking but we decided to try the oven with it on. The chicken was breaded and placed on the non-stick pan provided. According to the book, it was recommended that the temp be set at 440 degrees and the chicken should be turned frequently.  The chicken was moist and tasted great. Again, I stress the importance of using the extension. We cooked some of the chicken without it and some of them was just a little well done but tasty.

Precautionary and cleanup-

The glass can become very hot and it does heat up the area around it quickly. The lid can be a little awkward to handle and it is important to use the lid rack provided. You can see all the controls in the photo below.



Cleanup is very easy and all of the parts except for the lid is dishwasher safe. Before cooking, I placed some aluminum foil on the bottom to collect the fat drippings and there was very little fat on the foil. It is very important not to get the fan and halogen element (below) wet so just wipe it with a damp cloth.




Overall the oven is a great value for your money. You have to experiment with the temperatures and times when cooking. If you have a large family the oven may not be right for you.Tomorrow we will be trying a pork roast with a rosemary rub on it. I hope it is as good as the chicken. The CSN website was very easy to navigate and there is so much to choose from. There are over 200+ stores and you will  find something that you like. The item was received in excellent condition and shipping was fast. I had a great experience with CSN stores.
